Alcoholism
( 1 items )
Alcoholism, thought by many to be a disease is in actual fact merely the addiction a person has to alcohol. This may seem simple to say but addiction is a complex issue. Alcoholism, like drug addiction, carries with it a physical addiction to the actual substance, as well as a mental addiction to euphoric effects of alcohol combined with the life style that often accompanies its use and abuse.
Alcoholism can vary in degrees of severity from occasional displays of unaccepted behavior to full neglect of the individual’s physical well being, their family, friends, employment and life in general.
The key to determining the path to recovery from alcoholism is determining what stage of alcoholism the person is currently in. Some find it unfortunately easy to hide their alcoholism from family and friends but this doesn’t mean they aren’t miserable with guilt, shame, resentment and anger toward themselves and others. Just because a person is able to “function” in life or have family and/or friends who ignore their alcohol induced behaviors doesn’t mean they are happy or healthy. It just means they are being left to the demise of the substance they have chosen to solve a problem which has since given way to the greater problem of needing the drink they once thought of as a cure.
If you or someone you love is suffering from alcoholism then give us a call. Our counselors are experienced and trained to guide you through discovering what method to employ to begin the recovery process from alcoholism. You can get started today.
